What makes a good contractor website?

These days most contractor sites have the usual pages: Home, About us, Contact us, and possibly a Project Page that was last updated 3 years ago.

Projects Portfolio

Customers want to see quality images of the projects. Before and after photos and in-process photos. They want to know the backstory of the project. These project portfolios also give prospective clients ideas with their projects.  In addition, these are great first impressions for clients, as many will seek out project portfolios for added reach about you and your quality of work. These should be updated regularly with new projects or upcoming projects.

Customer Testimonials

Customers want to see a proven track record of performance with companies that they conduct business with.  A testimonial means that a client is putting their reputation on the line. If they give a testimonial and the business doesn’t live up to what they have to say, their reputation is damaged. So it is a very significant bond between the business getting the testimonial and the individual giving it.  Customer testimonials are a great way to build credibility with potential customers. ASK for testimonials! These are great, in addition send them links to your google business page to Facebook Business page for a review.

Blog

This one is one of the most important aspects, and is done the least by many contractors. Content creation needs to be a part of every successful contractor website, whether it’s weekly or monthly, talk to your prospective clients, teach them something related to the industry you are in. Google loves seeing new content on your site. Adding new content on a regular basis will set you apart from the competition.

Internal and Outbound Links to Manufacturers/Trade Associations

Many contractors are members of trade associations and groups. Most contractors are certified to install products manufactured by specific companies. Let the prospective clients know that you are certified to install or use that product from that specific manufacturer.  Create a web page that highlights and demonstrates those relationships. Add the manufacturer or association logos on the website. Provide backlinks to their websites. Follow-up with them and make sure that they backlink to the contractor website.  Backlinks are extremely helpful for search engine optimizations.

Social Media Icons/Links

These are a must. Most clients are looking for feedback from friends, neighbors and coworkers on social media. Contractors should share current projects and events about their company. Social media traffic should, in turn, drive more traffic back to the contractor website. A contractor website should link to social media pages for the company.

Company Branding

Establish a brand for your company and be consistent across all media.  As the company expands, its reputation customers begin to identify with the company. They recognize the company name, the tagline, and the logo of the company.  Branding is important because not only is it what makes a memorable impression on consumers but it allows your customers and clients to know what to expect from your company. It is a way of distinguishing yourself from the competitors and clarifying what it is you offer that makes you the better choice.

Professional Photography

No excuses these days. Most phones and all the latest and greatest cameras can take fantastic pictures. Websites with professional photography receive up to 90% more traffic than websites without. Images on websites contribute to the SEO value of the overall site; their alt tags and descriptions help search engines understand what your website is all about.

Mobile-Friendly Design

With a mobile-friendly website, anyone who tries to visit your site on a mobile device will have a proper experience, and that will encourage them to see you as a credible resource for information, products, and services

Add a Career Section

Your clients start thinking that you are growing at a fast pace, that obviously you are! Clients tend to give more business to the companies which they have faith in, and this might be very helpful for the growth of your organization.

 About Us Page

Make sure you have a real and relevant About Us page.  Customers buy from people they know. Tell the story and invite them into your personal and professional life.
